Notifications – No More
Social media apps are designed to hijack our attention and entice us to spend as much time as possible on them. When we get a notification, our brains release dopamine, a neurotransmitter that makes us feel good. Since our brains crave dopamine, we’re wired to find fast fixes for it, like those from notifications, so we’ll unconsciously keep repeating those behaviors.
Research suggests 80% of us check our phones within 15 minutes of waking up each morning. This means we are confronted with a sea of notifications across multiple social media and messaging platforms every morning. That alone can make you feel like you are falling behind. Amidst our growing overwhelm, let’s make a conscious decision to turn off social media notifications; here’s why:
- You’ll start your day less anxious.
- It redirects your behavior to support conscious and intentional consumption.
- You’ll have uninterrupted blocks of time to do deep work.
- You’ll be more productive and less busy.
- You’ll be more present for others.
- It reminds you of what’s truly urgent and important.
Take 2 mins and turn off your phone’s social media/app notifications.
